The Apostle Peter

Peter's Character and Actions are found in all True Christians When Peter was first introduced to Jesus, the Lord looked into his heart and said to him, "Thou art Simon the son ofJohn: thou sha/t be ca//ed Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter)" (John 1:42). The name "Peter" meant rock in the Greek and seems to indicate the kind of discip...

Heaven

The apostle John was told to write, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them" (Revelation 14:13). The Word of God has much to say about a heavenly rest and those who will be there. What will heaven be like (God's draw; cf. John 6:44-45)? Heaven will be a place of rest (Il Thess. 1:7; Hebrews 3-4; Revelation 14:13), comfort (l Thess. 4:13-18; I l Thess. 2:16), rejoicing (l Thess. 5:16), and peace (l Thess. 5:23). There will be no death, sorrow, heart aches, disease, sickness, pain, tears, hunger or thirst in heaven (Revelation 21:3-4). The heavenly city (New Jerusalem) will be a place of total perfection as is represented by the term "foursquare" (Revelation 21:1-2, 16). The word "foursquare" (tetragonos) = "a square with four equal angles; metaph. Square,...

Are They Few That Are Saved?

Jesus was once asked, "Lord, are they few that are saved?" (Luke 13:23). When one looks to the entirety of the Bible, he soon discovers that much of it is a historical record of a multitude of people's failures. During the days of Noah, "Jehovah saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually... and Jehovah said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the ground; both man, and beast, and creeping things, and birds of the heavens; for it repents me that I have made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of Jehovah" (Genesis 6:5-8). God brought a worldwide flood upon the earth that "The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will...

Have you Counted the Cost of Discipleship?

Some look through religious rose colored glasses and see only Jesus' love, tolerance of wickedness, and the beauties of heaven. Opening the Bible and reading it produces a clearer vision of Jesus and heaven. Anyone hearing the Lord tell them to enter into the gates of heaven will have paid a high price in this life. Jesus speaks of the high cost of discipleship at Luke 14:25-33 (please do read all before going any further in this article). Jesus said, "28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have wherewith to complete it? 29 Lest haply, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him, 30 saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish" (Luke 14:28-30). To illustrate the cost of discipleship Jesus...

"Be of the same mind in the Lord"

"Be of the same mind in the Lord" Philippians 4:2 The Apostle Paul writes, t'/ exhort Euodia, and I exhort Syntyche, to be of the same mind in the Lord" (Philippians 4:2). Paul admonished an unnamed "yokefellow" to help these two women work out their differences (Philippians 4:3). We are not told what Euodia and Syntyche's differences were but they nonetheless told to work it out. Why was it so important for Euodia and Syntyche to be of the same mind? Why is it important for brethren today to be of the same mind? First, it was important for these women to be of one mind because God's truth is one not many. The Apostle Paul writes, "Giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond ofpeace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling; one...
