"You're not Perfect..."

The title of this article illustrates a spirit of unity-in-diversity that is often found among our brethren. Such statements are made when one is challenged on a particular sinful practice or stance. The founding premise of this spirit is the idea that no one can fully understand truth, nor can a multitude of brethren understand truth alike....

Does Jesus "Accuse" You?

John chapter five brings forth a reality of Christian living to the saint of God. That reality is that we shall suffer persecution when we expose men's sins and stand for truth. Jesus was "persecuted" because he spoke words of truth and performed actions of law (John 5:16-18). Christians will be persecuted in this life because we are not part of the...

"Truth is Perished"

A sermon was preached by Jeremiah at the gate of the temple of Jehovah (Jeremiah 7:1). The thesis of the sermon was that "truth is perished' from the people of God (Jeremiah 7:28). God's people would neither receive instruction nor obey it (Jeremiah 7:28). They made the decision to walk by their own human ideas (counsels) and thereby illustrated their stubborn...

The Word of God is Here to Stay

The word of God is the standard for man's eternal existence. Divine revelation is identified as the truth or the gospel (Eph. 1:17). The prophet Amos viewed it as a plumb-line that establishes acceptable and unacceptable behavior (Amos 7:78). The prophet Hosea compared the word of God to a immovable landmark that establishes right from wrong (Hosea 5:10-11). Jesus said that God's word was the divinely established truth that makes a division between the identity of the righteous and wicked (Matthew 7:22ff). Divine revelation may be viewed as black and white with no shades of gray (l 1 Corinthians 14:33). The design of divine revelation is eternal, non-yielding to man's opinions, and set in stone (Il 1 Corinthians 1:12; 2:17; etc). Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35). The prophet Zechariah said that men's fathers and the prophets of the land would...

Take a Stand

Have you ever heard the old saying "you have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything"? I remember my father telling me and my older brothers this when we were growing up as he tried to instill in us the idea that a man should stick to what he knows to be right and never compromise his principles. This belief has guided me to this day, and long before my father instructed me to stand on secular truths, the Bible taught that man should stand firm on the truth of His word in the face of the attacks of the devil. In Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10 through 13 Paul instructs thusly: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For...
