And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
"Those on the rocky [soil are] those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no [firm] root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.
O LORD, do not Your eyes [look] for truth? You have smitten them, [But] they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.
"And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,
"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Do horses run on rocks? Or does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
"Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.
"But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
"The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
yet he has no [firm] root in himself, but is [only] temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.
"Other [seed] fell on the rocky [ground] where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil.
"And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
"In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky [places], who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy;
and they have no [firm] root in themselves, but are [only] temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away.
Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS,
while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."
