"Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father, And attend to know understanding:" (Proverbs 4: l).There are things you need to know. Things that will keep you from trouble now and for evermore (Proverbs 13:15).
Always look to God's divine revelation for direction and truth in this life. Never permit your mind to forsake truth for your opinions and personal desires (Proverbs 3:7-8; 14:12).
I implore you to be careful who you befriend. The wicked shall bring wickedness to your life (Proverbs 4:14-19; I Corinthians 15:33) and the wise will stand as a true friend at all times (Proverbs 17: 17).
Develop a right attitude toward sin now, in the days of your youth, before its too late. Solomon writes, "The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate" (Proverbs 8:13).
Keep yourself free from sexually immoral women (Proverbs 5:7- 9). Solomon wrote, "Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; Neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread; And the adulteress hunts for the precious life" (6:25-26).
While the world around you speaks words of filth, panicipates in sinful activities, goes to worldly and wicked events, be a shining light of morality. Solomon wrote, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23).
Keep yourself free of intoxicating wine, beer, and harmful drugs in general. Though such may have the appearance of fun in the end it bites one with poison and brings death (Proverbs 23:31ff). Solomon writes, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; and whosoever errs thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1).Keep yourself from exploding in anger against your fellow man. Anger will only bring trouble (Proverbs 15:1-2, 18; 19:11). Solomon writes, "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that rules his spirit, than he that takes a city" (Proverbs 16:32).
Asks yourself why you do what you are doing. If you are seeking the riches of this world to be viewed as important or glorious your heart has been deceived. Know that "Riches profit not in the day of wrath; But righteousness delivers from death" (Proverbs 11:4). Though men may believe that money is the answer to all their troubles they will find one day that their riches cannot save them from the wrath of God (Proverbs 18:11).
Work hard in this life for bread, shelter, and clothing. Never make demands upon others to do for you what you should be doing for yourself (Proverbs 6:6-11).
Awaken your heart to find a good (Proverbs 18:22) and prudent (Proverbs 19:14) wife. Find a woman who loves God and is a hard worker (Proverbs 31). Be satisfied and faithful to her all the days of your life (Proverbs 5:18-19).
