Frank E. Graeff's song, "Does Jesus Care" written in 1901 helps us remember that we have a loving Savior who truly cares when all else seems to fail us. The first stanza reads, "Does Jesus care when my heart is pained too deeply for mirth or song, as the burdens press, and the cares distress, and the way grows weary and long? O yes, He cares, I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief; when the days are weary, the long night dreary, I know my Savior cares."
Does Jesus Care when we lose a loved one?
The Lord was warned of re-entering the region of Jerusalem due to a recent attempt to stone him to death at John 11:8. Jesus disregarded the warnings and traveled two days to Bethany where Lazarus, a beloved friend, had died. Mary, the sister of Lazarus, came out to meet Jesus as he traveled toward Bethany and cried bitterly. "When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, and said, where have you laid him? They say unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. The Jews therefore said, behold how he loved him!" (John 11:33-36). The resurrection of Lazarus and the widow of Nain's son (Luke 7:13) establishes the fact that Jesus cares when we loose those we love in this life. Yes, He cares!
Does Jesus Care when I'm sick?
The word "compassion" indicates a sharing of the suffering of another and the willingness to give aid to relieve the suffering. Matthew writes, "And he came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick" (Matthew 14:14). Jesus had compassionate on those who hungered (Matthew 15:32), were blind (Matthew 20:34), and he removed demons that possessed men (Mark 5:1-19). Yes, He cares!
Does Jesus Care when it just seems that the issues of life are Overwhelming?
Sometimes it seems as though we cannot handle another thing on our plate. Sometimes it seems that we are at our limits of stress and anxiety. One thing after another goes wrong in our lives at times. Does Jesus care about my plight in life? The Apostle Peter answers by saying, "cast all your anxiety upon him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7).
Does Jesus Care when I'm tempted to Sin?
The scriptures teach us that Jesus is compassionate and understanding when it comes to our temptation to sin. The author of the book of Hebrews says that Jesus "succors" (Hebrews 2:18), offers well timed help (Hebrews 4:16), and "bears gently" with those tempted to sin so that they may be strong to withstand the devil. Jesus is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). Yes, He cares!
Jesus is the "good shepherd"
Jesus said, "l am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Jesus manifest his love for us all in that he gave his own life as a payment for the transgressions that were committed by us all (Isaiah 53 and John 3:16). No greater love and care can be found among the men of all history. Yes, Jesus cares at all turns of my life. Let us all care for him to by giving him glory through our obedience and efforts in this life!
