Verse of the Day

1 Peter 2:15-16For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. [Act] as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but [use it] as bondslaves of God.

Job chapter 30

1
"But now those younger than I mock me, Whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock.
2
"Indeed, what [good was] the strength of their hands to me? Vigor had perished from them.
3
"From want and famine they are gaunt Who gnaw the dry ground by night in waste and desolation,
4
Who pluck mallow by the bushes, And whose food is the root of the broom shrub.
5
"They are driven from the community; They shout against them as [against] a thief,
6
So that they dwell in dreadful valleys, In holes of the earth and of the rocks.
7
"Among the bushes they cry out; Under the nettles they are gathered together.
8
"Fools, even those without a name, They were scourged from the land.
9
"And now I have become their taunt, I have even become a byword to them.
10
"They abhor me [and] stand aloof from me, And they do not refrain from spitting at my face.
11
"Because He has loosed His bowstring and afflicted me, They have cast off the bridle before me.
12
"On the right hand their brood arises; They thrust aside my feet and build up against me their ways of destruction.
13
"They break up my path, They profit from my destruction; No one restrains them.
14
"As [through] a wide breach they come, Amid the tempest they roll on.
15
"Terrors are turned against me; They pursue my honor as the wind, And my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.
16
"And now my soul is poured out within me; Days of affliction have seized me.
17
"At night it pierces my bones within me, And my gnawing [pains] take no rest.
18
"By a great force my garment is distorted; It binds me about as the collar of my coat.
19
"He has cast me into the mire, And I have become like dust and ashes.
20
"I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me; I stand up, and You turn Your attention against me.
21
"You have become cruel to me; With the might of Your hand You persecute me.
22
"You lift me up to the wind [and] cause me to ride; And You dissolve me in a storm.
23
"For I know that You will bring me to death And to the house of meeting for all living.
24
"Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out [his] hand, Or in his disaster therefore cry out for help?
25
"Have I not wept for the one whose life is hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?
26
"When I expected good, then evil came; When I waited for light, then darkness came.
27
"I am seething within and cannot relax; Days of affliction confront me.
28
"I go about mourning without comfort; I stand up in the assembly [and] cry out for help.
29
"I have become a brother to jackals And a companion of ostriches.
30
"My skin turns black on me, And my bones burn with fever.
31
"Therefore my harp is turned to mourning, And my flute to the sound of those who weep.

Psalm chapter 120

1
A Song of Ascents. In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me.
2
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue.
3
What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue?
4
Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the [burning] coals of the broom tree.
5
Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6
Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace.
7
I am [for] peace, but when I speak, They are for war.

Galatians chapter 3

1
You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed [as] crucified?
2
This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
3
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
4
Did you suffer so many things in vain-- if indeed it was in vain?
5
So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
6
Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7
Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.
8
The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, [saying], "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU."
9
So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.
10
For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM."
11
Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
12
However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM."
13
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-- for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE "--
14
in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15
Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is [only] a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.
16
Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as [referring] to many, but [rather] to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.
17
What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.
18
For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.
19
Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
20
Now a mediator is not for one [party only]; whereas God is [only] one.
21
Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.
22
But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
23
But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.
24
Therefore the Law has become our tutor [to lead us] to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
25
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
26
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29
And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.

Galatians chapter 4

1
Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything,
2
but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father.
3
So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.
4
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5
so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6
Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"
7
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
8
However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.
9
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?
10
You observe days and months and seasons and years.
11
I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.
12
I beg of you, brethren, become as I [am], for I also [have become] as you [are]. You have done me no wrong;
13
but you know that it was because of a bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the first time;
14
and that which was a trial to you in my bodily condition you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus [Himself].
15
Where then is that sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
16
So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17
They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.
18
But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable manner, and not only when I am present with you.
19
My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you--
20
but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
21
Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?
22
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the bondwoman and one by the free woman.
23
But the son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.
24
This is allegorically speaking, for these [women] are two covenants: one [proceeding] from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar.
25
Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.
26
But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.
27
For it is written, "REJOICE, BARREN WOMAN WHO DOES NOT BEAR; BREAK FORTH AND SHOUT, YOU WHO ARE NOT IN LABOR; FOR MORE NUMEROUS ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DESOLATE THAN OF THE ONE WHO HAS A HUSBAND."
28
And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.
29
But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him [who was born] according to the Spirit, so it is now also.
30
But what does the Scripture say? "CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON, FOR THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE AN HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREE WOMAN."
31
So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the free woman.
